Lorraine Kiefer has gardened all of her life, she is a garden writer, floral designer and professional horticulturist. Lorraine teaches many classes at Triple Oaks nursery and Herb Garden in Franklinville, N J, the family business she and husband Ted started in the mid 70 ‘s. All of their three sons have been an active part of this enterprise, but it is now son Joe who captains the ship.
She attended West Chester University, State University of New York at New Paltz and was graduated from Rowan University with a degree in English. She has studied floral design and horticulture throughout the years. Lorraine has written a weekly garden column since 1972 that is now in more than 15 papers. She also writes for garden journals and magazines, as well as a frequent contributor to the PHS Green Scene. Last year she had an article in March on her kitchen garden and in December one on Christmas Arrangements naturally. In 2003 she began a garden column every Sunday in the Gloucester county times, as well as a bi monthly food page for that paper. Lorraine is founder and chairman of the South Jersey Unit of the Herb Society of America, she serves on the Horticulture committee of the National Herb Garden in Washington DC and has written a chapter in the Brooklyn Botanical Garden’s book on fragrant plants. Most recently she had an article in the Herb Society of American’s Herbalist titled Fragrance for all Seasons and another Herb Gardening Naturally. Programs and classes: Taught herbs and landscaping for Gloucester county college continuing educe. For the last 20 years. Teaches classes on floral design, herbal cooking, gardening and many other related topics at the nursery, Has done several presentations at the Philadelphia flower Show for more than 20 years on floral design, herbs, fragrant plants and more.
Environmental classes including a four part series that was funded by a grant from NJDEP entitled Backyard Best Management Practices and Wildlife Habitat Project. Gloucester County Parks sponsored it in cooperation with The Federation of Gloucester County Watersheds. Presenter at the National Herb society of America’s Annual Educational conference and meeting in both Baltimore Mary land and Fort worth Texas. Programs for HAS units in North Carolina and Williamsburg Virginia. |
