Two Traditional Seasonal Classes Palm braiding & Pisanki

Triple Oaks Nursery and Herb Garden is offering many interesting and unique classes this spring. One of them, Palm Braiding will be held on Sunday, March 25 at 1:00 PM and again on Monday the 26th at 6:30 PM Each class is $22 per person. Learn centuries old techniques of braiding palms. Make two simple designs at class; take home extra palm for more braided designs. Class taught by Luanne Decoma and her sister Louise. Refreshments and instructional handouts provided. Pre-registration is required. Call or email for registration forms.

A longtime favorite class at Triple Oaks, the ancient art of Pisanki is being held on Saturday, March 3, and again on March 31, 2007 both classes begin at 1:30 PM This will be taught by Lorraine Kiefer as she relates the legend and lore surrounding Pisanki.

In this class, each student will also decorate a traditional Eastern European Easter egg. The method taught is called Pisanki. Students will use a kystka or stylus and bee's wax which they melt over a candle flame. They will then write or draw on a raw egg before dipping it in dye. This process is repeated 3 to 5 or 6 times using wax between each color.
Students will receive a kit to take home with 5 colors of dye, Bees wax, a stylus, instruction and an egg. Jars of Dye are provided at the class so everyone can make a beautiful egg. It is suggested that each student bring a taper candle stub, only 4 or 5 inches tall, a short candleholder and some paper towels. Kit and all other supplies included in $25 registration. Students must pre register for this class so there are enough kits and materials.
